XO-DOS

.Season 2024

Overview

An incredible and highly engaging evening of cutting-edge contemporary dance performed by the artists of the Victorian State Ballet.

A new work in the VBS repertoire created by Martin Sierra in collaboration with the VSB dancers. When life forces a change, there is movement between life and death. Dying to the old ways and arriving to a new day brings always pain, joy and hope. It is not an easy task being dragged by destiny, but it is in that dragging where adventure begins and new beauty is discovered. It is not the destination but the journey that we learn to endure and to some extent, enjoy.

Through physical theater and contemporary dance, 'X0-DOS' explores the journey of an enslaved Israel toward the theocratic nation established under God's covenant with Moses on Mount Sinai. In allusion to the book of Exodus, the circumstances of our life can release a complete cascade of emotions capable of moving the essence of our life to a higher level. Some trails are happy, others are blue. What counts is how you walk the path.

Featuring music by David Byrnes, Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, Kronos Quartet and Planet Boom, all sections of this production aim to help the audience to enjoy and reflect on how their own journey is going so far.
