Kintsugi

Overview

Reviews

.Season 2016

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by filling in the cracks with gold, silver or platinum. Instead of trying to hide the damage, Kintsugi illuminates it. This is done with the understanding that mending is an art and that there is beauty in the broken places.

Sometimes we are broken due to our own mistakes or the dealings of others around us including life’s circumstances. But to be able to apply this art to our life we will be capable to experience life to the full, and when things become difficult, to find gold to mend ourselves.

Using the dancers' movements and emotions, KINTSUGI creates a juxtaposed combination of harmonious dancing sequences with broken and interrupted movements which at the end creates new beauty. KINTSUGI is a work that explores how this incredible art can be translated into dance.

Through a cast of specially selected dancers, we endeavour to bring to the stage an innovative dance work that is designed especially for the Adelaide 2016 Fringe. KINTSUGI strives to deeply engage audiences and bring them to a place of reflection and hope, to see their lives in a positive, valuable and hopeful light.
